Pag abounds in different sorts of soil and landscapes and thus, flora. From Šimuni to Tovarnele, the area protected from the bora, vegetation is extremely rich. There are pine-trees, fir-trees, mulberry-trees, juniper-trees; while on the cape of Lun, exist many old olive-groves. Common oak grows in Bošana and Dubrava. Trees are not dominant plants on the island, but low plant cover (mostly different sorts of grass), resistant to cold and the strong blows of bora. Sage is wide spread all over the island, on every bare rocky ground. It grows in bushes up to 60 cm high. It has the oval leaves and the violet blue flowers. It has an intensive, pleasant odour. From Miškovići to Lun we often come across the asparagus, mostly at the stone walls, or heaps of stones. It grows in small bushes. Hard-hay, also known as St. John’s wort, grows on the pasture grounds, often even along roads. It has an upright stalk with the ramified upper parts. It can be up to 70 cm high. The leaves are small and oval, while the flowers are rich and golden yellow. The so called flower of St. John has a wooden stalk, full of golden flowers.
It grows in the areas where the meadows turn into rocky ground. Nettle is a common plant that grows on moistly ground, under the hedge of tamarisk. It is dark green, slightly bended and has pointy leaves that burn when touched. One of the most common plants on the island is fennel. It can be found on any type of soil, along roads, on the fields and on moistly or dry land. It is recognisable by its dark green colour of the stalk and an intensive odour. The stalk can grow as high as 2 m, but only in the areas protected from the wind. This plant is ramified, with yellow flowers. The bushes of blackberry can be found everywhere where the ground lifts in step-like manner. Blackberry has long thorny branches which overlap creating a bush. The flowers are white or light pink. The fruit is black. Smaller part of the hills on the island is covered with self-grown lavender. It grows in bushes, 60 cm high, ramified at the bottom. The flower resembles to blue spikes.
Dandelions are most common flowers on the plain fields. Their leaves lie on the ground while the stalk grows high, sometimes up to 50 cm. Wide lowland areas of the island, especially of its southern part are rich with wormwood. Wormwood grows best on the dry, rocky land. It is a bush on a ramified stalk. Its leaves are grey, flowers are yellow and rounded. It tastes bitterly. A typical Mediterranean (and therefore also present on the island of Pag) plant is rosemary.
